Our Large Crystal Opal 9ct Yellow Gold Ring is a spectacular piece that would draw eyes and start conversations.
The term “crystal opal” refers to any kind of opal e.g. black opal, white opal, semi-black opal which has a transparent, translucent, or semi-translucent body. This is also referred to as the “diaphaneity” of a stone.
The opal has long been considered a lucky and protective talisman. During the Middle Ages, it was believed that if you wore an amulet containing opal, then you would be protected from failing vision and that your mind and memory would be strengthened.
As the light passes through the spheres and gaps, it diffracts (splits). Like a prism, the opal splits the white light into all the colours of the spectrum, and the light eventually bounces back out the top of the stone, at which point we get an eyeful of beautiful opal colours.
Modern jewellery, spanning from the mid-20th century to today, embraces bold design, innovation, and individuality.
Breaking away from traditional styles, modern pieces often feature clean lines, abstract forms, and unconventional materials like stainless steel, acrylic, and mixed media – alongside classic metals and gemstones.
Whether minimalist or avant-garde, modern jewellery celebrates self-expression and creativity, reflecting the ever-evolving tastes and cultural influences of contemporary life.
It’s wearable art that’s as diverse and dynamic as the world around us.
As with anything of value, especially sentimental value, taking good care of your vintage and antique jewellery from Avenue J Jewellery will enhance its beauty and extend its lifespan.
We encourage you to have your jewellery checked and cleaned by us or by your trusted local jeweller every six months, to ensure that each piece is in good wearable condition with all gemstones in place.
It’s not uncommon for stones to loosen over time, and it’s much easier to tighten a loose stone than to replace a lost one!
As stated in our Repair Policy, we strongly recommend that you allow us to perform any repairs, since our jewellers are specialists in restoring vintage and antique jewellery.
