The name tanzanite was given because the world's only known tanzanite deposit of commercial importance is in northern Tanzania. The name reflects the gem’s limited geographic origin. The mineral zoisite naturally occurs in a wide range of colours that include colourless, grey, yellow, brown, pink, green, blue, and violet. The name tanzanite is used for a colour variety of zoisite that ranges from blue, through violet, to purple.
The half hoop ring style this beauty possesses were made in the 1870's, during the Mid-Victorian era. Aptly dubbed half-hoop rings or carved rings, these rings were extremely popular. The side detail of the ring, a series of looped prongs are the very thing that earned this style its nickname.
Colour is one of the most important aspects of gemstones, and this can be seen in the wide range of colours available in coloured gemstones. From vivid reds to soothing blues, each different colour comes with its own characteristics, such as intensity and saturation. And because there are so many kinds of gemstones out there, you’re sure to find a look that perfectly complements your style.
Modern jewellery, spanning from the mid-20th century to today, embraces bold design, innovation, and individuality.
Breaking away from traditional styles, modern pieces often feature clean lines, abstract forms, and unconventional materials like stainless steel, acrylic, and mixed media – alongside classic metals and gemstones.
Whether minimalist or avant-garde, modern jewellery celebrates self-expression and creativity, reflecting the ever-evolving tastes and cultural influences of contemporary life.
It’s wearable art that’s as diverse and dynamic as the world around us.
As with anything of value, especially sentimental value, taking good care of your vintage and antique jewellery from Avenue J Jewellery will enhance its beauty and extend its lifespan.
We encourage you to have your jewellery checked and cleaned by us or by your trusted local jeweller every six months, to ensure that each piece is in good wearable condition with all gemstones in place.
It’s not uncommon for stones to loosen over time, and it’s much easier to tighten a loose stone than to replace a lost one!
As stated in our Repair Policy, we strongly recommend that you allow us to perform any repairs, since our jewellers are specialists in restoring vintage and antique jewellery.
